Brian Shaw staying put as Pacers associate head coach

Brian Shaw ultimately wants to be an NBA head coach, but that goal will have to wait another year.

Portland beat writer Jason Quick of The Oregonian is reporting that Shaw is no longer a candidate for the Trail Blazers opening and he has informed Pacers head coach Frank Vogel that he will return for a second season.

This summer, Shaw has reportedly interviewed for the head coaching vacancies in Charlotte, Orlando and Portland. Many still question how he was picked over in 2011 when Phil Jackson retired in LA.

Shaw was a big hit in his first season with the Pacers. As a former player, he connected well with the players while also holding them accountable.

As many teams are upgrading their roster this offseason, Indiana is stressing continuity on their front line. They re-signed George Hill and Roy Hibbert, and now there will be no changeover with the coaching staff. The blue and gold have also added D.J. Augustin, Gerald Green and Ian Mahinmi.

The Pacers went 42-24 in a lockout-shortened NBA season. They defeated Orlando in the first-round of the NBA Playoffs, but lost to the eventual-champion Miami Heat in six games of the conference semifinals.
