Butler University awarded its former successful coach, Brad Stevens, with an honorary doctorate at Saturday’s commencement held at the Butler Bowl. Stevens played basketball at DePauw University in Indiana and graduated in 1999. Now he has another degree.

Brad Stevens has taken another, more decorated head coaching position. That part isn’t surprising to Butler University, athletic director Barry Collier and fans — they knew this day was inevitable. Four months ago, in a first round Maui Invitational game which Butler trailed 71-69 with mere seconds to play, transfer senior Rotnei Clarke hit a 3-point miracle heave at the buzzer, to advance in that tournament 72-71.
