Bloomington South advances to state finals after downing North Central 76-66

Bloomington South walked into the gym to meet semi-state opponent and defending champs North Central as the underdogs and left one win away from a Class 4A State Championship.

Both teams had similarities (in addition to both being the Panthers)—led by two veteran coaches in J.R. Holmes (B.South) and Doug Mitchell (NC). The pair of teams are led by two players followed by a supporting …

North Central tops Pike without Smith-Rivera to advance to regional finals

North Central handled adversity just fine Saturday morning, topping 5th-seeded Pike 79-73 in front of about 9,000 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Without the services of their best player, D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, NC had a strong second half to propel them into the regional finals Saturday night against Hamilton Southeastern who knocked off Center Grove 69-64.

Before the game, there was madness outside for tickets. The line was …

North Central’s Smith-Rivera deserves one game suspension

As much as I hate to say it, North Central junior standout D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera deserves to miss the Panther’s regional semi-final game Saturday against Pike after throwing a punch.

During the second quarter of last Friday’s sectional contest between North Central & Lawrence North, a fight broke out. A pair of seniors, Michael Chandler of LN and Tim Bass of NC got tangled up during …

Bloomington South Takes Sectional Three-Peat

It had been 40 years since a basketball sectional had been held in Bloomington. What better way to kick it off than a North v. South matchup in Friday’s sectional semi-final. South, playing on their home court, completed the regular season with a 20-2 record against North’s 12-8 mark. The Panthers defeated North at home earlier in the season 86-55.

Both teams started off slow …

Video: Lawrence North’s Michael Chandler fights North Central player

Friday night’s Indiana basketball high school sectional 10 game brought the emotions out of both Lawrence North and North Central. The two teams have a strong dislike for each other led by coaches Jack Keefer (LN) and Doug Mitchell (NC).

During the 2nd quarter, Lawrence North’s (and Central Florida commit) Michael Chandler throws serious punches at Tim Bass of North Central. Both are ejected and …
