Eric Gordon holding annual basketball camp June 8-10

With school out — at least for most kiddos — some children need something to do. Others want to get better, and teenagers are working to elevate their game.

For basketball players, a great camp kids K-12 can partake in is Eric Gordon’s annual camp. Each summer since leaving Indiana University in 2008 after one year and entering his name into the NBA Draft, the …

Carlos Knox visits IUPUI’s new gym for the first time

IUPUI Athletics Hall of Famer Carlos Knox was impressed Friday morning as he made his first visit to his alma mater’s new basketball venue. Starting this past season, the IUPUI men’s basketball team played its home games at the newly-renovated Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the State Fairgrounds.

“This is incredible,” Knox said. “Just understanding where it started, over at The Jungle, which is a small …

Juan Pablo Montoya wins action-packed Indy 500

Everything came together in Indianapolis on Sunday.

Beautiful weather — sunny with temperatures over 80 — craziness even before the green flag was even waved, and a finish that had everyone in the stands on their feet for the last 15 laps.

Juan Pablo Montoya crossed the finish line first at the 99th Running of the Indianapolis 500 for his second win. He’s the 19th …

Frank Vogel, Paul George ride in 500 Festival Parade

Frank Vogel and Paul George aren’t used to having free time until June. Any of the Pacers, really.

George and his neighbor George Hill had not missed out on postseason play until this year.

With the additional time away, and hopefully for the last time they stressed, the head coach and face of the Pacers took part in the 2015 IPL 500 Festival Parade Saturday …

Indy 500 shakes up Community Day, drivers join 42 schools for Field Day

One of the annual festivities I look forward to each May is Community Day at the track, where race fans and the Indianapolis folks alike visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, garages, and with the drivers. They get a taste of the race, the environment where it all goes down, and it’s a great field trip for students as the school year winds down.

It’s a …

Indy, Top Ten List, and Racing — my memories of Letterman as he signs off of Late Night

Indy’s own David Letterman hosts “The Late Show” on CBS for the final time Wednesday night after more than 22 years as the host and 35 years in the business.

Ever since I can remember, the Broad Ripple High School product (Ball State, too) has been on late-night TV, bringing laughs to folks around the country before they turn in for the night. He’s had …

Daisy Esterline gets her wheelchair-accessible van with help of Paul George, public

At the first of the month, I wrote about how Paul George got word that one young Pacers fan and her family was in need and so he decided to do something about it.

George quietly donated $10,000 to the gofundme account to help Daisy Esterline, an 11-year-old girl in Indiana with cerebral palsy, purchase a wheelchair-accessible van.

In all, the family received 82 donations …

Paul George, Frank Vogel among VIPs in 2015 500 Festival Parade

Pacers coach Frank Vogel and swingman Paul George will in this year’s IPL 500 Festival Parade slated for Saturday, May 23rd at noon. It’s an annual tradition, the day before the race, for the 33 drivers in the Indianapolis 500, local dignitaries and celebrities to parade around downtown Indianapolis.

With the Pacers not qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in five years, guys …
