Ryan Grigson’s first test: the NFL Draft

For the first time since 1998, someone other than Bill Polian will be primarily responsible for personnel moves, most specifically the draft, for the Indianapolis Colts.

You know how it went. Out goes Bill Polian, Jim Caldwell, and Peyton Manning. Now in is Ryan Grigson, Chuck Pagano, and Andrew Luck.

Lots of inexperience there. First time general manager, first time head coach, and first time …

NFL analysts Mel Kiper Jr., Mike Mayock on the Colts draft needs

No big change, except for a …

Peyton Manning will be a Denver Bronco

Peyton Manning has made a decision. The first-ballot Hall of Famer will head out west to join Hall of Famer John Elway and the Denver Broncos.

There’s no question Elway was instrumental in getting Manning to the mile-high city. Now the Bronco’s vice president of football operations, he has been a great mentor and friend for the four-time NFL MVP.

Denver works for Peyton, because …

An active first day of NFL free agency

NFL teams had until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday to come to terms with their own players before they become unrestricted free agents. Immediately after the deadline passed, there was heavy action from around the league.

Due to the Colts phase of rebuilding and poor salary cap action, they have yet to make any moves but they are talking. The cap for 2012 is about $120 million …
