Injuries continue to hurt the already depleted Colts (2-2) this season. Safety Melvin Bullitt is out for the season with a broken bone in his right shoulder. Bullitt said that he heard a tear in his shoulder after falling hard on his right shoulder in Sunday’s game at Jacksonville.
Bullitt is schedule to have surgery in two weeks and will be placed on injured reserve.
Defensive juggernaut Bob Sanders already went out in the first game of the season at Houston. Sanders went under the scope of Dr. James Andrews to repair his torn bicep, same injury but different arm as last year. He could possibly return this year, although it wouldn’t be until December at the earliest.
The Colts have battled injuries from the outset. In addition to Sanders, wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez (sprained right ankle), Pierre Garcon (hamstring), Charlie Johnson (sprained right foot), and Clint Session (hamstring) all have missed multiple games. Even Colts center Jeff Saturday missed the entire preseason with arthroscopic knee surgery. And don’t forget, Jamie Silva has missed the entire regular season.
Bullitt went under the needle this last offseason to repair the same (right) shoulder.
Melvin Bullitt came to the Colts in 2007 as an undrafted free-agent from Texas A&M. He was another one of Bill Polian’s tremendous finds. He has been the guy to fill in for Sanders who has missed more games than he has played.
Brandon King and DaJuan Morgan will probably be turned to in the meantime. Morgan saw action Sunday once Bullitt went out in Jacksonville. You can bet Bill Polian will also search elsewhere for potential replacements.
Until then, next man up.
