If you’re reading this, you’re probably a fan of social media and all the great uses it has. There are many people and organizations that refuse to give in to the new technology. For the Colts, its time for them to step up their social media presence.
The Colts are lacking in the ever-expanding online world.
With a team twitter account, there are numerous benefits for the Colts organization and the fans.
For the Colts, it’s a controlled outlet that connects the fans with the team. It would be a place for the team to list injuries, players in the community and free advertising for their website and its articles.
The New York Jets franchise for example were skeptical at first. Now well into this season, the team boasts almost 80,000 followers.
The Cincinnati Bengals exemplify how the Colts should use twitter.
Roster moves—#Bengals roster moves: Place RB Brian Leonard on season-ending IR; claim former Colts DB David Pender
Team promotion—#Bengals QB Carson Palmer is up for FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week for his 4 TDs against SD. Vote for Carson here:http://bit.ly/ZKhoy
Injuries—Chad Ochocinco says he’s not making trip to Baltimore because of ankle
A couple weeks ago Colts owner Jim Irsay began using his twitter account heavily. Within a few hours he had 1,000 followers. Today just three weeks in, Irsay has over 17,000 followers.
Irsay’s account is a lot more fun than the average tweeter. Tuesday he gave away a trip for two to Hawaii for the ProBowl along with $1,000 spending money. Each week he has given away thousands of dollars and many pairs of tickets to the Colts game that week.
The Colts are one of the rare teams without a twitter account.
In Indianapolis, the Pacers, Fever, Indians and Ice all have facebook and twitter accounts as do each of the collegiate teams.
Managing social media isn’t a very daunting task and it can really help the Colts website and fan base. After all without fans, there is no Indianapolis Colts.
I’m impressed by your wrintig. Are you a professional or just very knowledgeable?
