Damarlo Belcher’s career has come to an abrupt ending at Indiana. Head coach Kevin Wilson announced Monday that the senior wide receiver has been dismissed for violating team rules.
Despite leading the Big Ten in receptions last season, Belcher had been quiet during his senior campaign, partly due to the inconsistency at quarterback. In seven games, he registered 25 catches for 286 yards and a touchdown.
Once Tandon Doss left for the NFL after last year, Belcher should have been IU’s leader both on and off the field. That however, was not the case. He finished his career in Bloomington three receptions shy of the all-time record, held by James Hardy.
It’s another situation of a player not being on the same page and willing to commit himself to first-year head coach Kevin Wilson. In the midst of reconstructing the program, Wilson has been cleaning house of those players not buying in.
The Hoosiers (1-8, 0-5) have three games remaining — at Ohio State, at Michigan State and the bucket game against Purdue at home.
