Fred Glass to introduce Oklahoma’s Kevin Wilson as next Indiana football coach

Indiana athletic director Fred Glass has found his next head coach. Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson will be named the next Indiana head football coach Tuesday afternoon.

The 4 p.m. press conference will take place in the Henke Hall of Champions in the North End Zone and is open to the public.

The Big Ten Network will broadcast the announcement live and will stream it online here.

Wilson met with Glass Friday in Norman, Okla., just one day before the Sooners beat Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship. On Monday he flew to Indianapolis to meet with Glass and school officials, essentially agreeing to terms.

He will get a substantial pay raise from his $430,000 Oklahoma salary. Former coach Bill Lynch was making $660,000, last in the Big Ten.

Kevin Wilson coached under Randy Walker at Miami of Ohio from 1990 to 1999, and at Northwestern from 1999 to 2001.

At 49, Wilson has led the Oklahoma offensive since 2002. He won the annual Broyles Award in 2008, given to the top college assistant in college football after the Sooners scored an NCAA-record 716 points on the arm of Heisman quarterback Sam Bradford.

Oklahoma offensive line coach James Patton may follow Wilson to IU. Patton has coached under Wilson since 1998.

The Indiana Varisty Club and athletic marketing groups have both sent out mass emails to donors and students. The Varsity Club emailed supporters at 10 am, and students received their email at 12:30 prior to the announcement.

The Indiana University Athletics Department will be holding a press conference at 4 p.m., this afternoon, in the Henke Hall of Champions, in the North End Zone of Memorial Stadium.  The purpose  of the press conference is to make a major announcement regarding the Hoosiers football program.

The press conference is open to the public and fans are encouraged to come out and support our new head football coach. The Big Ten Network will televise the announcement live starting at 4 p.m.

We’ll see you at the Henke Hall of Champions at 4 p.m. to welcome our new head football coach to the Hoosier Nation!
