A local Ball Up basketball game brought out a handful of NBA faces, including the Pacers’ backcourt duo of George Hill and Lance Stephenson. Hill served as the coach for Indy’s squad and Stephenson was just a courtside observer, checking out the talent and supporting his teammate.
Ball Up All-Stars beat Hill’s best of Indy, 132-118, Sunday night at Arsenal Tech High School. While the result appears as if Ball Up had their way, that wasn’t at all the case. The game was tied at 117 with about three minutes to go. That means the Ball Up All-Stars closed the game on a 15-1 run. It sounded the like it was a competitive back-and-forth contest. Indy led 60-50 at the break. Thus, over the final two quarters, Ball Up poured 82 points on the board and outscored Indy by 24 (82-58).
Indy’s team was selected earlier Sunday, at Washington Park. Anyone was welcome to tryout in front of Hill, as well as Gilbert Arenas, who joined Hill on the bench.
Still without a deal in place – the Pacers have offered him $44 million over five years — Lance Stephenson continues to be seen at local events. He’s been in a handful of Indiana Fever games this summer, and is still working out at Bankers Life Fieldhouse despite being a free agent.
Arenas, who played 11 years in the Association, had been out of the league for the past two years – yet he still collected over $22 million from the Orlando Magic thanks to the amnesty provision.
For those craving more basketball during the summer, the 2014 Knox Indy Pro Am tips off Saturday, July 12th at IUPUI.
