Christian Watford went down in Indiana history on December 10th when he hit the game-winning buzzer-beater to lift the Hoosiers past undefeated and No. 1 Kentucky.
(Sidenote: the ‘Watshot’ is up for the ESPY for Best Play in 2011. Voting begins Friday with 16 seeds and the award will be decided by bracket-style voting until July 11th.)
In fact, because of the ‘Watshot,’ he’ll never have to buy a drink in Bloomington or when around IU fans.
In his junior season, Watford started every game and averaged 12.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest.
After being evaluated by NBA executives and hearing their evaluation of his draft stock and NBA potential, Watford decided to return for his final year of eligibility. He has some unfinished business to tend to.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to complete my degree and to continue restoring the winning tradition at IU,” Watford said after confirming his return in April. “I believe in Coach Crean and our staff and I am eager to lead my new teammates and build on what we started.”
IU ace sports information director J.D. Campbell interviewed Watford Wednesday for IUHoosiers.com:
