Indiana football goes more traditional, unveils 2011 uniform

The Hoosiers will debut these more traditional uniforms on Sept. 3 vs. Ball State at Lucas Oil Stadium.

New coach. New system. New Uniforms.

Kevin Wilson and his team will have a familiar look when they take the field this fall.

The new uniform essentially gets rid rid of the stripes on the jersey sleeves and on top of the helmet, as well as the black “spiderweb” looking tape on the back of their pants.

“I think fans are really going to like our return to a more traditional design and color scheme,” Indiana Athletic Director Fred Glass said. “We are thrilled that our partner adidas was able to come up with such a classic look while still using state-of-the-art technology.”

The helmet design has been pretty standard since 1966 when they went to a crimson color with an “I” in cream. They first put the real IU logo on either side in 2002.

“The uniforms are really sharp. Our guys will be excited and the fans will love them,” Coach Wilson said. “We wanted a look that builds on tradition, yet has a cutting edge style that our players will wear with IU Pride.”

Much like basketball, football is going back to a more clean, simplistic design and it only makes sense. Another way for Kevin Wilson to leave his imprint as he embarks on his journey at IU.
