Indiana secures commitment from Robert Phinisee

Indiana men’s basketball head coach Archie Miller stays hot on the recruiting trail as point guard Robert Phinisee becomes the latest high school prospect to commit to the Hoosiers.

Phinisee, going with the popular trend of announcing his college choice on social media, pledged his commitment to Indiana on Twitter Saturday night:

Phinisee, a native of Lafayette, Indiana and a member of the 2018 recruiting class, decided to make his college choice before playing his senior season for McCutcheon High School. He becomes the second player from the state of Indiana to commit to the Hoosiers with Miller at the helm, proving Miller’s early influence within state lines.

Damezi Anderson, also a member of Indiana’s 2018 recruiting class, was the first prospect from within the state border to pledge to Miller and the Hoosiers.

As of Sunday night, Phinisee was rated as the No. 99 prospect in the 247 Sports’ Composite class of 2018 rankings.

The decision from Phinisee gives Miller his first commitment from a point guard and brings the number of pledges in the Hoosiers’ 2018 class to three.

In mid-January, Race Thompson established himself as the first player to commit to Indiana with Miller guiding the Hoosiers. Hours later, Jerome Hunter joined Thompson with a pledge to IU, followed quickly by Anderson.

Thompson was originally a class of 2018 prospect, but reclassified to 2017 and is reportedly already on campus working out with the team.
