“The Worlds Greatest College Week(end),” is upon us.
Little 500 week — in Bloomington, Indiana. For college students and even young adults, it doesn’t get any better.
There’s so much to the week that makes it so special, highlighted by the men’s 200-lap bike race next Saturday.
Great times with friends, always something to do, music blasting at every hour of the day, and lots of beverages are consumed.
I can’t believe this will be my fourth and final Little 500 week, as a student. It sounds like a cliche but it really is true…your four years of college will fly by. It seems like just yesterday I was in the dorms looking forward to all the hype that was Little 5.
Last year, IU students were treated to a memorable concert at Assembly Hall. Lil’ Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross rocked the stage at a sold-out concert in the hall.
Guys and gals have been working all year to prepare for the race showcased in front of their peers. The women’s race will go under the lights this year, set for a 7 p.m. start Friday evening. Saturday morning, around 6 a.m., Bloomington will begin coming to life as a full-day of festivities gets underway.
Having great weather is critical to make for an ideal week. Hanging outside with the sun beaming down is tremendous. And renting out pontoon boats on Lake Monroe is a must…that’s what I’m doing today in fact.
Little 500 is two weeks before finals, meaning another year in college is coming to a close. This week, plenty of stories will be made, forgotten, and re-told. Doing it big, but playing it safe.
Seniors will do whatever they can, making the most of their last few weeks. Freshman will finally experience the week they have heard about all year, but never experienced.
Below is a commercial for the race, which includes IU alum Mark Cuban talking about what Little 5 meant to him.
