Jim Caldwell is still the Colts head coach…for now. During a news conference on ‘Black Monday,’ Coach Caldwell said “I’m moving forward until otherwise notified.”
After the Colts posted their worst record since the 1991 season, 2-14, changes are imminent. There have to be moves made. With the worst record in the league, Indianapolis has secured the No. 1 pick in April’s draft. It seems like a perfect time for a culture change, right? Jim Caldwell disagrees.
“We don’t need a culture change…we just have to play better. We didn’t play well, regardless of the circumstances.”
Sure, there were adverse circumstances. The best Indianapolis Colt of all-time, Peyton Manning, missed the entire season. A handful of the best defenders were placed on injured reserve. Maybe the biggest thing we learned form the 2011-12 season is that Manning covered up so many flaws.
Changes have to be around the corner. Is it time for Indy to part ways with the Polians, who have helped shaped the Colts into a model franchise, until recently? Be careful what you wish for, however.
Just got out of year end meeting… Coach Caldwell & Chris Polian spoke. Gonna be interesting to see what happens in the next couple days

In the presser, Bob Kravitz asked Coach Caldwell if he was able to do what he wanted in the current organizational chart. Caldwell didn’t exactly answer the question. “”The way in which we’re structured is structured extremely well. I work well within the structure.”
Changes are just a matter of time. I believe owner Jim Irsay is making calls, working to find his next head coach and possibly GM. Until then, no further announcements.
“It’s up to Mr. Irsay at this point,” Colts center Jeff Saturday said Monday. “He’s made it clear he’s going to change direction some way. I don’t know what that means, but he’s going to do something. I trust that he’s going to do what’s best for the organization. He has in the past.”
At the end of his news conference, Jim Caldwell thanked the media for what they do, even though he may disagree some with what’s written or said. Sounds to me like a guy that now knows his fate.
