Las Vegas bound for some holiday basketball

An early turnaround for me today after working the Pacers game last night against New Orleans.

And what a spectacular finish it was with Mike Dunleavy tipping in Danny Granger’s missed three with tenths of a second remaining. Not only was it big for the Pacers in terms of another win, but the faithful crowd in attendance enjoyed their decision to attend the game and likely will return.

After the Hornets finally left at 10:30 PM last night, I cleaned up the locker room and hurried to get out of Conseco as soon as I could to get some sleep and because the weather was only getting worse.

My normal 15 to 20 minute ride home took twice that time because cars were driving around 20 MPH.

Following a late night, I had an early wake up call this morning at 5 AM to catch a 6:50 flight to Las Vegas.

That’s right, Vegas bound. Indiana basketball is participating in the IBN Las Vegas Classic and so this is a great excuse of course to spend a few days out west.

The weather however will be somewhat chilly compared to normal standards. The average high is just over 55 degrees for my three days in Vegas.

I am staying at The Palms hotel where the team is staying. I surely will do a little gambling and sightseeing. IU’s first game is Wednesday evening at 7:30 (Indiana time) against Northern Iowa. I plan on posting twitter updates during the game and hopefully a postgame blog depending on what I’m up to that night.

More games, more experience for a young Hoosiers team. IU’s charter flew out of Indianapolis Sunday night following a 102-60 triumph over South Carolina State. The big question out of that game is the status and health of redshirt senior guard Jeremiah Rivers.

Rivers sprained his left ankle in front of the Indiana bench and was looked over my team doctors. He will be okay as it is just a sprain and its just a matter of time before Rivers can return to the court.

Although the injury isn’t serious, it wouldn’t surprise me if Coach Tom Crean holds Jeremiah out of these two Las Vegas games in hopes that he can return for the Big Ten season which begins at the end of December with both Penn State and Ohio State both at home.

I’m currently en route to Vegas with a stop in Minneapolis. Thank goodness for Delta offering free in-flight WiFi. It definitely makes the trip go faster.
