Now that the NBA Draft is in their rearview mirror, the Pacers turn their full attention to free agency.
With that comes mini-camp this week at Bankers Life Fieldhouse featuring rookies and free agents ahead of Summer League play, July 5-11 in Orlando. The group will practice twice a day on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and once on Friday before flying to Orlando.
The Pacers’ official roster, released early Monday by the team, lists 17 players, including three currently on roster — Lavoy Allen, Solomon Hill and Donald Sloan. Seven of the players last played in the NBA’s Developmental League and three are undrafted rookies. Three guys on roster played college ball in state, Eric Atkins (Notre Dame), Frank Gaines (IPFW), and Jake Odum (Indiana State).
The most interesting name this summer is Roger Mason, Jr., who played 25 games with the Miami Heat last season. He’s 33, and looking to land on another roster. Rasual Butler helped earn his spot on last year’s Pacers roster with a great showing — both of leadership and on-court play — last July as a 34-year-old.
The roster, subject to change, is below:
Lavoy Allen, C, 6-9, 255, Temple
Eric Atkins, G, 6-0, 180, Notre Dame
Dee Bost, G, 6-2, 176, Mississippi State
Jackie Carmichael, F, 6-9, 240, Illinois State
Frank Gaines, G, 6-3, 195, IPFW
Solomon Hill, F, 6-7, 220, Arizona
DeQuan Jones, F, 6-8, 220, Miami (Fla.)
Kevin Jones, F, 6-8, 251, West Virginia
C.J. Leslie, F, 6-9, 209, N.C. State
Roger Mason Jr., 6-5, 200, Virginia
James Nunnally, F, 6-7, 205, UC-Santa Barbara
Jake Odum, G, 6-4, 180, Indiana State
Arinze Onuaku, C, 6-9, 275, Syracuse
Willie Reed, F, 6-10, 200, Saint Louis
Sadiel Rojas, G, 6-4, 190, Oklahoma Wesleyan
Donald Sloan, 6-3, 205, Texas A&M
Tyler Stone, F, 6-8, 230, Southeast Missouri State
Last summer, the Pacers’ Summer League entry place third (out of 10 teams). Pacers longtime assistant Dan Burke will once again head up the team.
