Pacers Gaming owns the 13th pick in the inaugural NBA 2K League Draft. The order was determined Tuesday during the draft lottery for the 17-team eSports league.
In less than a month, on Wednesday, April 4, the inaugural draft will begin at 1 p.m. ET in The Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden’s Lobby in New York. The draft will be six rounds and will be in snake order. So, the Pacers will pick fifth in the second-round (22nd overall).
The top three picks belong to Mavericks, Celtics, and Jazz.
The pool of 102 players available was selected by the NBA 2K League after a tryout period that got underway in January. First-round picks will earn $35,000 in base compensation, while all other picks will earn $32,000.
Pacers Gaming’s picks: 13, 22, 47, 56, 81, 90.
Kelly Krauskopf, the longtime General Manager of the Indiana Fever, is the President of Pacers Gaming. Cody Parrent is the Director of eSports Operations.
“It’s a historical day for Pacers Gaming,” said Krauskopf. “When you consider the pool started with 72,000 players and now narrowed down to the best 102 available, I think our draft position in each round will definitely set us up to put together a great first-year team.”
“I’m excited,” said Parrent. “There are so many talented players in this community that I believe all the teams will be competitive out of the gate. This was an exciting day for Pacers Gaming and the NBA 2K League.”
This is the first year for this gaming league, which has a promising future. It is likely that it will eventually expand to 30 teams, one for each NBA franchise, much like the NBA G League.
Construction is in progress on the team’s gaming site. All six players will be brought to Indianapolis and receive free housing, health insurance, and a retirement plan.
