During a timeout in the first half of every home game, the Pacers recognize a local Indiana hero.
The Pacers gave a touching tribute at Saturday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, honoring the late Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig, who was killed by ISIS in mid-November while serving others.
“Kassig is remembered around the world for how he lived his heroic life and his selfless acts have alrready inspired others to donate to the Syrian crisis and to dedicate their lives to humanitarian causes,” read one sentence in the game program, which can be seen in its entirety below.
Kassig was from Indianapolis and attended both North Central High School and Butler University.
During the timeout, photos of Kassig serving were shown on the videoboard while his parents, Ed and Paula Kassig, stood at center court and observed an outstanding, well-deserved standing ovation in honor of their son.
