The Pacers have added another big man to the mix. Shayne Whittington, an undrafted free agent out of Western Michigan, signed with the Pacers, the team announced on Wednesday.
It is a non-guaranteed deal. He visited with the team on June 20th.
Whittington, a 6-10, 237-pound center averaged 16.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game during his senior campaign with the Broncos. He connected on 52.7 percent of his shots.
Typically, a guy like Whittington would take part in the team’s rookie/free agent camp going on now, and then play on their Summer League squad. However, he broke his left fibula in a pre-draft workout on May 8th, which is a big reason he was not selected in last month’s draft.
Whittington had surgery and is already working with the Pacers’ medical staff. He just got out of his boot and is no longer on crutches. It is unclear when he might return to the court, but he does not have a defined deadline.
