Pacers trim roster to 16, waive C.J. Fair and Kadeem Jack

The Indiana Pacers trimmed its roster to 16 on Saturday, waiving both C.J. Fair and Kadeem Jack. Both players had training camp deals.

Fair, 24, was in camp with the Pacers for the second consecutive season. Getting minimal playing time in five preseason games, he averaged 1.6 points per game. The 6-foot-8 wing, who spent all of last season with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, is expected to go back there.

[Q&A with C.J. Fair]

Jack, out of Rutgers, was a late add to camp. Over a week into camp — no media day for him — on Oct. 7, the undrafted free agent  joined the Pacers with the intention to learn the team’s system and get work in before joining the Mad Ants, which he will now do. The Mad Ants, recently purchased by the Pacers, are coached by Steve Gansey and Brian Levy is the GM.

Jack was scoreless in his one preseason appearance.

Neither guy had a legit chance at a roster spot as the team already has 15 fully guaranteed deals, plus Toney Douglas’ partial guarantee. The Pacers must cut one more player by Monday, when opening day rosters must be finalized. Teams may carry a maximum of 15 players.

Douglas will likely be the final cut made. But, if he’s still on the roster for Game No. 1, almost 70 percent of his league-minimum contract ($1.2 million) is guaranteed.
