Paul George has been selected to be the cover athlete for MyNBA2K16 mobile companion app, due out on the first of October, 2K Games announced on Wednesday.
George, a two-time NBA All-Star, is a perfect fit because not only is he a star player who is becoming a household name, but he also is an active NBA2K player.
He has posted dozens of photos on his Instagram account of him beating his friends on NBA2K. The loser must stand in front of the final boxscore. Here’s one of his former teammate Lance Stephenson, for example.
Almost 14 months since he had surgery to repair a compound fracture in his right leg, George has been in Indy often to prepare for the new season.
According to last year’s version, MyNBA2K15, the app “makes it easier for you to stay in touch with your console version of our most-true-to-life NBA experience yet.” Fans with the app can play others in one-on-one, enhance players skill, and earn points to purchase items from the MyPlayer Store.

Messages to 2K Games seeking more details and why George was selected were not immediately returned. James Harden (Houston), Stephen Curry (Golden State), and Anthony Davis (New Orleans) are on the cover of NBA2K16, slated to be released next weekend.
George has sponsorship deals with Nike, AT&T, Gatorade, Papa John’s, and New Era Caps.
