Source: Eric Gordon has surgery on right ring finger

New Orleans Pelicans guard Eric Gordon had surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles to repair a fractured right ring finger, a league source told VigilantSports.com.

Gordon, an Indianapolis native, suffered the injury for the second time in 47 days on Saturday night during the second quarter of a loss to the Utah Jazz. It was his fourth game back from the exact same injury that kept him out for 16 games.

Opting for surgery, Gordon will miss the remainder of the season. In his fifth season in New Orleans and eighth overall in the NBA, Gordon averaged 15.2 points, 2.7 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game as a starter in 44 of 45 appearances.

From June: Gordon enjoys rehab-free offseason for the first time in three years

Gordon is in the final year of a four-year, $58 million contract with New Orleans. He exercised his player option, worth $15.5 million for this season, last June.

The Pelicans have had an injury-plagued season; Gordon, Alexis Ajinca, Bryce Dejean-Jones, Tyreke Evans, and Quincy Pondexter have all been ruled out for their next game coming up on Wednesday, Luke Babbitt and Norris Cole are questionable.

Former Pacers guard Orlando Johnson, who has played in the D-League with the Austin Spurs, is planning to sign with the Pelicans (as Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports first reported).

At 24-38, New Orleans is 6.5 games out of eighth place in the Western Conference. They have 20 regular season games remaining on their schedule, 11 of which are on the road.
