VIDEO: Pacers beat Pistons behind Paul George’s 21-point fourth quarter

The Pacers had lost two in a row and five of their last seven games entering Saturday’s matchup against the Pistons. It was an important game, not only to get back on track but to do so before playing nine of their next 11 games on the road.

Earlier Saturday, Pacers coach Frank Vogel emphasized defensive principles during shoortaround and then then it was on the individuals to follow through. Vogel called it a “defensive pride game.”

Well, the Pacers held the visiting Pistons to 35 percent shooting, including 15 percent from outside en route to a 94-82 win. The biggest takeaway from the game was how passive Paul George played. That led to far too many turnovers – seven in fact. It was the third time in nine games he has equaled his career-high with seven giveaways.

Things changed for him in the fourth quarter. He got his groove by attacking the rim and getting fouled. Then he made his free throws. Under five minutes to play in the final period, George then went on a tear.

He scored the Pacers’ final 21 points and hit all seven of his field goals, including three triples, and did not turn it over over the final 10 minutes. That’s elite Paul George. In all, he finished with 32 points, a season-high 14 rebounds, and three assists.
