Paul George and George Hill are a funny duo. They are teammates, neighbors, and close friends. And they are the leaders of the G2 Zone at Pacers home games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Though the George’s both sidelined with injuries — PG likely for the season and Hill at least for this road trip with a left groin strain — the two are traveling with the team.
There’s no doubt, they are having fun doing so.
Prior to the Pacers’ 105-101 win Monday night in Utah, George and Hill sat down on FOX Sports Indiana’s pre-game set, grabbed the microphones and greatness followed.
George, who played the host, got things started and said, “We’re going to talk about our guys.” Then, he proceeded to do so, noting that point guard C.J. Watson was back in the lineup. Clearly, Hill has to learn that only one person can talk at a time and not to talk over the host, PG in this case.
Later, George perhaps makes fun of Pacers TV analyst Quinn Buckner when he put his arm Hill’s shoulder and said, “Can’t wait to get you back out there, partner.”
As a sports broadcaster, I laughed when I first saw this — especially at how the two spoke louder, deeper, and more confidently, as if they were truly announcers.
If you didn’t know how close they are, it’s obvious from the video alone. Also, since they’ve both been sidelined for much of this 2014-15, they frequently workout together.
“Me and George are very close,” George said during his only media availability so far this season, on Nov. 21st.
“So for us to both be sidelined because of injuries and pushing each other to come back. We always joke that I’ll be back before George. It’s just both of us going through … same situations, battling back, trying to get back healthy and going through the process together.”
For how good the tandem are behind the mics, they are even better on the basketball floor. But we likely won’t see that pairing again in game action until October.
