Paul George’s injury and recovery to Olympic gold has been well-documented. From his awkward fall on the stanchion in Las Vegas, to surgery, a visit from Coach K, and missing out on the first 76 games of the 2014-15 season.
He returned to All-Star form last season, his first full year back. And nearly set the scoring record in the All-Star game. Led the team to Game 7 of their Round 1 playoff series. Voted Second-Team All-Defense and Third-Team All-NBA.
George then followed his heart, and returned to USA Basketball in quest of an elusive gold medal. Playing for his country was a dream of his going back to his childhood days in Palmdale, California.
In an NBC special feature that will air before Sunday’s gold medal game (2:45 p.m. ET), George talks about his journey back and what it would mean to be golden.
“A gold medal would represent just being resilient, just being a fighter, being determined, being strong, having belief, having faith,” he said. “I think it symbolizes me being who I am; can’t break me.”
