Paul George is less than three months removed from surgery after he sustained an open tibia-fibula practice on August 1, and he’s doing even more on the basketball court.
After the Pacers’ practice on Monday, George shot around — moving around loosely and comfortably. He ditched his boot a couple weeks ago, and is now seen wearing two shoes rather than one shoe and the boot.
“[His] spirits are great,” head coach Frank Vogel said last week. “He’s encouraged; he’s optimistic that he’s going to try to get back as soon as possible. He’s around the team a lot being a contributor and being a smiling face and contributing to our culture.”
George, who has not been made available to the media since mid-August, attends all team functions and watches practice from the sideline in full practice garb. Last week, he worked on his dribbling as media was allowed in for practice.
In light of the team’s ongoing injury bug – David West and Rodney Stuckey will miss the final two preseason games – Vogel joked, “I keep telling (Paul) if he’s not playing by Halloween, then he’s milking it.”
