Taylor University in Upland, Indiana is a small Christian college with only about 2,000 students. During an annual basketball game on the Friday before final exams week, students and players alike get fired up for a game dubbed “Silent Night.” It is a relatively new annual tradition that is truly unique.
Beginning in the late-1980s, an assistant coach came up with the idea for the students to be silent until Taylor scores their 10th point. I’ve never seen anything like it and I think that’s what makes it so special. It’s different. And to finish off the night, the gathered crowd joins hands to sing ‘Silent Night’.
Students pack the jam, dressed in a variety of costumes with an enthusiasm that is on anther level. My favorite outfit this year is the “Occupy” look. Watch the 2011 version below:
