Hibbert borrows rookie Myles Turner’s sports coat

Roy Hibbert may no longer be a Pacer, but he called on his former teammates Monday night while back in Indianapolis for the only time this season.

Hibbert wasn’t expecting to sit out — he was the only Lakers player to had played in all 53 games — against his former team. But he suffered a left ankle sprain eight minutes into the Lakers’ loss at San Antonio on Saturday. He tested it out at morning shootaround but then was held out.

Trouble is, there is a dress code for inactive players to sit on the bench and Hibbert didn’t have a sports coat. The team is on a four-game, seven-day road trip out east. So, he had Rodney Stuckey ask the Pacers’ big men. Ian Mahinmi didn’t have one, but Myles Turner did.

“I always keep a jacket in my locker in case I turn an ankle and something happens,” Turner said postgame. “I told Stuckey, ‘I got a jacket if he wants it.’ And he wanted it. I’m the closest to his height.”

Turner and Hibbert talked briefly in Los Angeles when the Pacers played there on Nov. 29. Turner, who’s just 19, received a direct message from Hibbert on draft night: “Welcome to the team,” it read.

The Pacers then traded Hibbert to the Lakers in July.

Turner may not be Hibbert’s rook, but he lent him his sports coat for the game … and Hibbert was sure to thank him publicly afterwards.
