Andrew Luck with more similarities to Peyton – now calls his own plays at Stanford

With Colts off to an abysmal start, media and fans have began talking about Indy’s chancing of landing Stanford sensation Andrew Luck. Most experts and scouts believe he is the next best quarterback to enter the NFL, since well, Peyton Manning.

Manning signed a five-year, 90 million dollar contract before this season but hasn’t played a game because of ongoing neck problems.

If Peyton has just a few years left, many fans are calling for Luck to be the face of the Colts, which would keep the most consistent team of the last decade on top for another 15 years.

Andrew Luck by all accounts has the mind, arm and skill-set that most resembles Peyton. In week four of the college football season, Luck began making play calls at the line of scrimmage.

“This was the game we were going to start doing it,’’ Stanford coach David Shaw said. “We put the formation out there and let Andrew call the play. It’s 100 percent up to him to get us in the right play.”

“He can get to anything in the offense,” Shaw said. “He was phenomenal. His (calls) were a little better than mine.’’

Not only did Andrew lead Stanford to a 40-12 whipping of Virginia Tech in last year’s Orange Bowl, but he decided to stay in college for his senior year, like Peyton, to perfect his craft.

“I had an opportunity to talk to Peyton Manning — I had sort of already made up my mind, but when you have the opportunity to talk to arguably the greatest quarterback ever, you talk to him,” Luck said this summer. “He (Peyton) told me, ‘Do what you think is best.’”

Andrew Luck has Stanford off to a 4-0 run and they still hold the nation’s longest win streak of 11 games. He finished Saturday’s game against UCLA 23 of 27 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-19 victory.

En route to the win, Luck displayed a skill Manning doesn’t have…the ability to run a route and make an amazing sideline catch. Watch below:
