Bill Cowher: I do not plan on coaching next year

The once consistent Colts have yet to win a game in the 2011 season. Since, there has been speculation on whether Jim Caldwell and staff deserve to be back next season.

One of the big names that has to be atop many lists is former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, who directed that team for 15 years. He stepped down after the 2007 season with a 161–99–1 record, including playoff games.

On the NFL Today, Cowher shoots down the talk that he will return to coaching in 2012:

“I’d just like to say this. I’ve not been contacted directly or indirectly by any football team or any organization. It’s all speculation, and it’s unfortunate because it affects the lives of many people that are in the profession. I am here to say to you today, I do not plan on coaching next year. I love where I work, and more importantly, I enjoy the people that I work with up here. So I can put all the speculation to rest. And if I have to repeat this in December again, I will.”

“…It’s a tough profession, I know there is speculation out there. I’m flattered by it to be honest with you. But at the same time it affects too many people’s lives. I like what I’m doing right here, and I plan on being back in the same seat next year.”

The other big note from the NFL Today was from Charley Casserly, the former General Manager of the Redskins and Texans. To say he’s very connected with a variety of people throughout the league would be a an understatement.

As for Jim Caldwell’s future, Casserly says, “He’ll be back as head coach in 2012.”
