Shaq to join TNT, ESPN misses out on the character they need

One of the best big man in the NBA retired June 3rd but he will continue to entertain the fans.

Shaquille O’Neal has reportedly agreed to join Turner Sports for TNT’s coverage of the NBA.

The 7-footer will be great on television, he always is–whether it’s a post-game interview, charity event or his show on ABC, Shaq VS.

During his news conference to announce his …

Indianapolis Star make further cuts from an already deteriorating paper

Yesterday I was upset to read that my hometown paper, the Indianapolis Star was shelling back led by a big move from their parent company.

Gannett Company owns 82 newspapers across the country with over 20,000 employees.

We all know the newspaper business isn’t what is use to be but really…how bad is it?

Well, this is the fourth mass layoff for Gannett Co. since …

From ballboy to broadcaster, Marv Albert’s path is one I hope to duplicate

One of the great sports broadcasters of all-time, Marv Albert turns 70 years-old today. To honor him and his marvelous career (pun intended), Steve Serby of the New York Post published his extensive interview with Albert.

Marv Albert is one of my favorite broadcasters ever. His voice is fantastic and he truly engages the audience with whatever game he is calling. He is great at …

ESPN crew rolls wrong tape, altering Doris Burke’s credibility

I feel bad for ESPN sideline reporter Doris Burke. On Saturday, the crew in the production truck cued the wrong hit which aired in the pre-game of game three, Dallas at Oklahoma City.

Oh no! This is a broadcasters nightmare.

Those in television production know that multiple takes are recorded for most on-air hits before and after the game.

Even the main crew, in this …

Mike Breen’s repetitiveness is a reminder to analyze my broadcasts

One thing us broadcasters always deal with is using different ways to describe the same thing. In basketball, the end result is often the same—the ball goes in or it doesn’t. When announcing the game, the broadcaster can actually describe a shot like, “rolls in, it goes down, hard off the rim, kisses off the glass or slides off the rim.”

Today’s a big day …

Another year in the books at IU – my time as an undergrad is dwindling

Last week consisted of just four finals for me at Indiana University. Six semesters down, just two to go.

What everyone says about college is true. They really are the best and fastest years of your life. With a the label ‘senior’ now aside my name, I’ll be turning 22 mid-June.

In high school, I was always looking forward to the next day, the next …

Being a team player – I did something at last night’s Pacers game that I hadn’t done in years

Last night’s NBA Playoff game took me back more than a few years. To say I’ve worked at Conseco Fieldhouse for a while is an understatement. I will begin my 10th season working with the Indiana Fever this summer and am completing my seventh year with the Pacers.

My job title: locker room attendant. Essentially whatever the visiting team needs, I’m their man.

Throughout the …

Chris Denari prepared as always to call his first NBA playoff game

Whew! The wait is finally over. One of the classiest men in the broadcasting business will finally get what he deserves. Chris Denari, an Indiana native with a passion for sports and broadcasting will call his first NBA playoff game tonight on Fox Sports Indiana after five years with the Indiana Pacers.
