Shaq to join TNT, ESPN misses out on the character they need

Shaq and Charles Barkley will fight for airtime on TNT.

One of the best big man in the NBA retired June 3rd but he will continue to entertain the fans.

Shaquille O’Neal has reportedly agreed to join Turner Sports for TNT’s coverage of the NBA.

The 7-footer will be great on television, he always is–whether it’s a post-game interview, charity event or his show on ABC, Shaq VS.

During his news conference to announce his retirement Shaq said, “I do plan on entertaining you for the next 19 years. Whether it’s TNT, ESPN, CNN or whoever wants to hire me, my office is opens on Monday. Give me a call.”

But the problem is that he is going to a network, TNT, that already has an outgoing voice who is never afraid to speak his mind in Charles Barkley.

How is anyone going to be able to get a word in? And for that matter, are we going to get quality analysis or just chit-chatter about miscellaneous things.

Instead of TNT, I would have liked to see Shaq sign with ESPN/ABC to give the network comic relief and be a fresh voice on their shows. Magic Johnson adds little to nothing and he is such a homer for the Lakers. That is fine, but I don’t want that on network television; take that to the Lakers coverage.

I am especially surprised that Shaq didn’t sign on with ESPN/ABC, because of his existing relationship for his show, Shaq VS. Although that may have ended badly, thus O’Neal going elsewhere.

In my seven years working in the NBA, Shaq is by far my favorite player to work alongside. I take care of him, he takes care of me. But his locker room presence is what stands out. He keeps the locker room in check. He’ll make fun of a teammate, he’ll make fun of himself, and he’ll make fun of me.

He will immediately be a hit on television, there’s no question about it. He has a strong demeanor and what he says immediately demands attention. But Shaq and Charles Barkley will have to dual over time. They both like being the face of the network and the one to be up front about any issue.

This is a tremendous addition for TNT–ESPN/ABC is missing out on the addition that would enhance their NBA coverage.

Shaq averaged 23.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game in his 19-year career. He won four NBA championships; three with Los Angeles and one with Miami. He also was the NBA Finals MVP three years in a row (2000-2002) with LA.

You can also relax on their room massage or sunbathe on the sundeck.
Cartagena is just three hours away by plane from Miami a destination for those who enjoy
partying and then getting on a horse carriage ride. The temple contains a giant black bronze statue of Huyen Thien Tran Vu sitting on a stone pedestal 1.
