Colts punter Pat McAfee keeping busy, hosting daily ‘Pat McAfee Show’

The always-entertaining Pat McAfee is back at it once again. The outgoing punter has picked up a new hobby this offseason—he now has his own online show, broadcast live from a spare room in his house via UStream.

“I got all these (twitter) followers  from one little canal dip,” McAfee professed.

The show got off to a very interesting start as Pat said that despite the lockout, the team is working out on their own.

“We had a walkthrough that Mr. Peyton Manning setup because he’s the man. We’re obviously not allowed to tell you where it is because we don’t want any weird media there because nobody really gives a damn about the media. It was awesome though. It was nice to see everybody.” They practiced Monday morning and were going to again Tuesday.

McAfee then read a text from Peyton Manning that said, “don’t say my name.” That text came before the show started but McAfee saw it too late. “Whoops, that’s awkward…already did.” Moments later, Ryan Diem texted McAfee the same thing but Pat read it out loud as well.

McAfee had a strong lineup of guests including Austin Collie, Jerraud Powers and Hank Baskett.

First up, was Colts wide receiver Austin Collie who was very up beat and excited to play some football again after having his year shortened because of numerous concussions.

“I feel good,” Collie said. “I’m 100% better and I’m just eager to be back on the football field. I can’t wait to get out there once again and be with the guy. That was the most painful two months of my life not being able to be out there with the guys and the team. I’m just anxious to get back at there.

When asked about demanded the ball, Collie admitted there’s always an ego involved in getting Peyton’s attention.

”You could say that. I think every wide receiver has a bit of PR arrangement or agenda you could say to get more balls. It will be interesting this year.”

Things did get a little comical as well, when Collie professed, “I am a Justin Bieber fan.”

The two also discussed the BYU moral code that was widely-publicized during March Madness time when Brandon Davies was suspended for the remainder of the season.

“Part of the requirement to go to BYU is living up to a certain level of values and expectations. Unfortunately, the kid had a little hiccup, made a mistake and was not sure exactly what he was getting into when he signed that letter of intent. He had to face the consequences and I’m sure he’s ready to get over that and I’m sure the university will give him another chance and he can continue playing basketball.”

“It’s an honor code that you sign before you go there. Everyone knows that’s what you are getting into. It doesn’t make him a bad person but everyone makes mistakes and he had to accept the consequences.”

Then it was cornerback Jerraud Powers who joined the Pat McAfee Show. They talked about everything from football, to gunning on special teams, and selling cars. But first he updated Pat and the viewers on his life.

“Just got recently married. And now I’m looking for a job. I’m starting to fill out some applications because the lockout is taking a turn for the worst. If anyone out there is hiring, let me know…I think I could be a salesman, I’m really good at everything…I’m a pretty handsome guys, so maybe I could win over some people.”

Finally, it was former Colts backup receiver Hank Baskett and husband of Kendra (which he is more famous for).

“Do you know how hard it is to go to the grocery, see you and your kid on the tabloids,” Pat asked Hank. “You’re everywhere.”

Baskett had a witty reply saying, “that’s just a friendly reminder for you to give me a call Pat.”

It appears McAfee is now turning this into a daily show. The UStream, hour-long broadcast has taken place the last two nights and he said Tuesday night is a sure thing as well. He truly has a knack for entertaining and engaging his audience. He invites questions from viewers on twiter, using the hashtag #pmacshow.

Personally, I don’t believe this is going over very well with #18 and Bill Polian (GM). Those two take control of the locker room and try to keep everything hidden. McAfee has found a fun way to spend his time but he does need to be careful with what he says. And if he doesn’t perform on the field, (there’s no reason to think he won’t) the Colts won’t hesitate to drop ties.

Ultimately, it’s whatever keeps him out of the canal I guess.
