Eric Gordon off to career numbers in LA

Third-year guard Eric Gordon is having his best season yet. With little help, he is doing it on the worst team in the NBA.

Despite the LA Clippers’ 5-20 record, Gordon has emerged this season as their true leader. The only assistance he has received is from Blake Griffin who is healthy after missing all 82 games in his rookie campaign.

Eric Gordon has scored at least 20 points in 12 straight games and 19 of the last 20. He’s averaging a career-high 24.5 points, 3.20 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game.

He scored 28 points on the Magic last night, matched Kobe Bryant’s 24 last Wednesday and he tallied 21 in a surprise win against Spurs who currently have the best record in the NBA at 20-3.

EJ currently ranks sixth in the NBA in points per game, third in free throws and 15th in field goals made.

This past offseason, Gordon made the most of his time with Team USA and winning the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

One big change for EJ came in the strength and conditioning department. Over the summer, he truly got serious and focused on getting better each day. Gordon hired friend and former Indiana strength and conditioning coach Jeff Watkinson to be his private trainer.

Another step in the right director for the former Indiana Mr. Basketball.

He’s always been physically built and tough for his age but it is much different going against the world’s best night in and night out.

The possibilities are endless for EJ who will turn 22 on Christmas Day. Prior to the 2010-11 season, the Clippers picked up the team option on his initial four year contract.

After next season, Gordon will be a hot free agent looking to cash in with a winning NBA team.
