Indiana basketball summer update: Derek Elston

Next up in the summer update series is senior Derek Elston. Last season, he saw the court in 34 games, and averaged 4.2 points and 2.4 rebounds.

The 6-9 forward from Tipton has struggled with his health and admits he is now the healthiest he’s been in quite awhile.

Being one of the older and more experienced players on the team, it’s important for Elston to set an example of how hard to work during the offseason. On and off the court.

As for what he can do next year — “I feel like this year, I could kind of take over Matt Roth’s role where I come in and kind of hit a couple big threes. But me being a little more athletic, I can get to the rim, I can post up.”

In the classroom, seniors Elston and Jordan Hulls both graduated last year and have now begun working towards a masters degree.
