Indiana commit Cody Zeller named 2011 McDonald’s All-American

Head coach Tom Crean will coach his first McDonald’s All-American at Indiana next season when Cody Zeller heads to Bloomington. Zeller will be the 25th McDonald’s All-American to play for the cream and crimson.

In addition to Cody Zeller, Pike’s Marquis Teague, and Gary Lew Wallace’s Branden Dawson from Indiana were will play in the game on March 30 at 10 p.m. in Chicago. The state of Indiana has produced 36 McDonald’s All-American boys basketball players in 34 years. The game began in 1977.

The Zeller family becomes the first trio of brothers named McDonald’s All-Americans. Luke Zeller (Notre Dame) and Tyler (North Carolina) were selected in 2005 and 2008 respectively and each were named Indiana Mr. Basketball. The trio of brothers have each led the Washington Hatchets to an IHSAA Class 3A State Championship.

Cody is also a top candidate to be named Indiana Mr. Basketball, contending with Kentucky commit Marquis Teague.

The Washington, Indiana native has had an impressive senior season. Opposing teams double and even triple-team the 6’11” center.

He is averaging 25.0 points, 13.7 rebounds 3.2 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 steals per game helping lead his team to a 14-4 record with four games remaining in the regular season.

Next up, he hopes to make an immediate impact for Indiana next season. Bloomington has battled through three years of rebuilding and are anxious for their their first winning season and NCAA tournament birth since 2007-08.
