Love him or hate him, sports agent Drew Rosenhaus has become a household name

The infamous press conference from Terrelle Owens' backyard.

Drew Rosenhaus is the most well-known sports agent in the country. Most avid football fans recognize his name and what he is about.

He has help shape the sports agent business as we know it, for better and for worse. The business was brought to light in 1996 with the movie Jerry Maguire starring Tom Cruise. More than before, becoming a sports agent has become the fun and cool thing to do for students enrolled in college.

We recognize Rosenhaus as a hard-nosed, know-it-all, all about the money kind of agent. In his interviews, he is snarky and like a used-car salesman…after all, he is making a pitch to NFL teams on behalf of his over 170 players.

Last night he was showcased on 60 Minutes, he talked about the cut-throat business of working in sports and with players. “It’s kill or be killed in this business,” Rosenhaus said. “And I intend to do the killing.”

One of the more interesting parts of his interview is when he showed off his sales pitch. Rosenhaus was completely confident in his energetic spiel and public service announcement for others to higher him. “I am the best,” he said.

Most of his clients in the NFL, including a player on every team except for the Atlanta Falcons. He has multiple cell phones each with a purpose and says he takes a couple hundred phone calls daily.

While the job may look glamorous, Rosenhaus has little personal time. He ultimately chose business over a wife, kids and his own family. He does work with his younger brother Jason.

He clearly is good at what he does but I had to laugh at what could have been an enlightening 60 minutes piece, was more of a sale pitch and reinforcement to his clients that he is a top agent. His persona just rubs me the wrong way but there is no denying that his clients like him and teams fear him. And that’s just how he likes it.

“I really believe that the NFL would fall apart without me. That may sound cocky, that may sound arrogant, but I’m telling you the truth”
