Madison Square Garden is NOT All That

This past weekend I had the opportunity to travel with the Indiana Fever to New York. It was a special opportunity because NY is one-of a kind and the infamous Madison Square Garden.

MSG is popular for so many things. The present Garden hosts approximately 320 events a year. Madison Square Garden is the third busiest arena in the world in regards of ticket sales. It is the home of the New York Knicks, Liberty and Rangers. It also hosts the annual Big East men’s basketball tournament each year, NIT tournament, and NBA Draft. It has also been the home to huge fights, the circus and musicals.

The Garden is truly historic because of so many great events there each year. So many famous celebrities have performed and there may not be a greater stage. But the arena is miserable.

I have been blessed to work at Conseco Fieldhouse the last nine years. The arena is now 11 years old, after opening in November of 1999.

There is plenty of space to work with. Everything is well-thought out and very well organized. Even the fact that there is a practice court connected to the Pacers locker room. Given, its a completely different environment than that of New York, but its time for NYC to demolish the Garden and start over.
