My top ten college basketball jobs

SportingNews college basketball writer Mike DeCourcy listed his top ten jobs in the country.

1. NORTH CAROLINA.
2. UCLA.
3. TEXAS.
4. KENTUCKY.
5. OHIO STATE.
6. INDIANA. This state produced Greg Oden, Mike Conley and Gordon Hayward for others, but the best are starting to join the Hoosiers again.
7. KANSAS.
8. DUKE.
9. MARYLAND.
10. ARIZONA.

I have to disagree with Mike on multiple levels. Below is my list.

1. North Carolina. First Dean Smith and now Roy Williams. Recruits want to play there and you have the support of Michael Jordan. UNC is a basketball school pushing plenty of resources the team’s way.
2. Duke. Duke has been the most successful team this decade, recruiting their own kind of player. Their fans pack Cameron every night to make it such a challenging environment.
3. Indiana. They have finally overcome the Sampson era and are on their way back up. Recruits are filing in and Coach Crean has put a border on the state. They have had their worst three years in history yet attendance is 3rd in the Big Ten and top 10 in the country.
4. Kentucky. They have some of the most religious fans but are also the most hated in the country. Calipari knows how to recruit and guide an NBA prospect. Problem is, all he takes are one-and-done’s. They are willing to put money into the program…maybe even look the other way on violations.
5. Kansas. Basketball may have evolved in Kansas but it is still very strong. The arena is packed every night, and Bill Self has led the Jayhawks to quality success including a recent championship.
6. UCLA. Has struggled in recent years but remains the team with the most titles. The history and traditions are there. What have they done for me lately?
7. Michigan State. This job is enticing just because of Tom Izzo. He made it. What other coach can tell recruits that he will play in a final four in one of his four years. The environment is one of the worst to play in and Izzo has led the green to crazy success.
8. UConn. Although they have been in numerous violations, what else is there to do in Connecticut? UConn has built a solid program, and the job may be open soon if Calhoun finally retires.
9. Texas. Everything is bigger in Texas, including the school, athletic budget and boosters. The program hasn’t had the success it should but the job isn’t very heated either
10. Ohio State. Maybe it use to be. But too many allegations and athletic department problems are bound to fall on the basketball team soon enough. They have had great success, but the arena doesn’t post sell-outs.
