Could we see Colts quarterback Peyton Manning before years end? At this point, it’s still not clear but we do know Manning is doing all he can.
On Monday, Indianapolis media personality Mark Patrick tweeted, “Don’t know that it means anything, but P. Manning’s helmet & pads are in his locker for Wednesday’s practice. Haven’t been the past months.”
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that Peyton Manning did indeed work with receivers and running backs after practice this week. And during those throwing sessions, he was wearing shoulder pads and a helmet.
This news is encouraging but nothing drastic. I think this means he is right on schedule and doing what he should. I’m sure he is trying anything possible and putting extra rehab time for the chance to return sooner rather than later.
Manning throwing is very helpful for the Colts, who have a big $28 million dollar decision come early March. That’s the bonus he’s scheduled to received if still on the roster.
Still winless, with the worst record in the league, it’s almost certain the Colts will have the top pick in this year’s NFL draft. The health of Manning could have a big impact on what the Colts do.
Or they may make the obvious selection either way and draft Andrew Luck.
Of course I want to see Peyton back on the field, but not at the risk of his overall-health. He’s a father now and he can’t risk getting permanently injured for life. It wouldn’t be worth it in the long run. It’s hard to decide what to hope for?
