The President’s 2013 NCAA Tournament bracket is in and we’re supposed to care

When the media, particularly at ESPN, began tweeting on Wednesday who the President has in his Final Four and winning it all, the same thought went through my mind that always has this time of year.

Seriously?

“Ain’t nobody (especially the President) got time for that.” Or he shouldn’t anyway.

I have no problem with the President, whoever it is, releasing his picks via a White House release. Our current President, Barack Obama, is a sports-enthusiast, which is great, but is a TV segment on ESPN necessary?

For those that care, President Obama has Louisville, Indiana, Ohio State and Florida in the Final Four, with the Hoosiers hoisting the trophy. That’s all fine and dandy, but doesn’t he have anything better to do with his job? And if he doesn’t, I would think he’d spend every other minute with his family, who has to be without him a great deal because of his job.

So where does the blame fall? Mostly ESPN, because they’re the ones highlighting his picks each March. The White House also deserves some for allowing this to happen. I’m guessing their take on it is that the President is getting attention in a positive light and reaching an audience that likely isn’t tuned into CNN or FOX News on a daily, or even weekly basis. At least when he’s interviewed for the Super Bowl, President Obama discussed topics relating to the country and that he is well-informed about.

His opinion on the NCAA Tournament is no better than Rose sitting at your local bar. By the way, none of his Final Four teams made it in both 2010 and 2011. It’s just a waste of time for him, and everybody else.
