Former NBA star Charles Barkley is one of the most entertaining and outspoken analysts on television. The only guy I would put above him is his new colleague, Shaquille O’Neal.
Although I never worked or interacted with Barkley, who played in the league from 1984 to 2000, I’m sure he would have been one of my favorites to work him.
In my eight years, the best characters in the locker room are those that can loosen up and keep the room lively. Like Shaq, he’s great at making fun of others but he isn’t afraid to take some heat in return.
Saturday, Jan. 7th, Charles Barkley hosted Saturday Night Live on NBC and was a hit. Many of his skits centered around what he probably was thinking but can’t usually say. There were three that stood out among the rest and thanks to technology, they are available here online.
1) Barkley is an analyst for NBA on TNT. In this first skit. he makes fun of the rookie, Shaq, who is now retired and joined TNT.
2) Barkley certainly isn’t afraid of speaking the truth and what’s on his mind. This skit is entitled, “white people problems.”
3) And then saving the best for the last, the smartphone application we’re all waiting for, (especially those of us in broadcasting/journalism). It’s the postgame interview translator app.
