Video: Hollowell, Harris hit game-winning shots in first round of sectionals

While their future team was battling it out in Bloomington, two top Indiana high school basketball stars hit game-winning shots to keep their team alive in the postseason.

Indiana recruit Jeremy Hollowell (right) and Michigan State recruit Gary Harris each opened sectional play Tuesday night and both games went down to the final second, literally.

Here’s the situations:

Lawrence Central had the ball with five seconds left, tied at 59 against Tech (led by IU recruit Trey Lyles, sophomore). The ball was inbounded from the baseline to Hollowell of LC on the right wing. His finish at the buzzer gave Lawrence Central the win 61-59.

Gary Harris of No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern was playing No. 3 North Central at Noblesville. It’s just a shame this game was in the opening round. In a sold-out gym with a wild atmosphere, this game did not disappoint.

HSE was down two with 10.2 seconds remaining when Harris went to the line and connected on both free throws. Then, they forced an North Central turnover to get one last try. 4.2 seconds to go, the ball was thrown into Harris at halfcourt. He got around a couple defenders, made a sweet spin move and launched the shot from about 35-feet out. He banked it for the win, 86-83. Whew.

That night, Harris’ buzzer-beater gained the most attention and landed him the top spot on SportsCenter’s top 10 plays.

Indiana and Michigan State, the future home of Hollowell and Harris respectively, played a great Big Ten game at Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers knocked off No. 5 Michigan State 70-55, for their third win over a top-5 opponent this season.

After the games, the two messaged back and forth on twitter suggesting that ESPN should have tied all three games together, with the two recruits hitting game-winners for their high school team. Their reaction below:
