Antwaan Randle El hopes to make his mark on the Super Bowl, again

Former Indiana University football star, Antwaan Randle El is playing in the NFL’s biggest game on Sunday. Now on his second stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the quick-footed quarterback now wide receiver will look to impact another Super Bowl.

While playing football at Indiana from 1998 to 2001, he was extremely versatile. He played basketball for Coach Knight his freshman year, and baseball his sophomore year.

What may be more impressive was that Randle El was drafted in the 1997 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs in the 14th round.

Randle El finished his collegiate career fifth on the all-time NCAA total yardage list, and became the first player in college football history to record 2,500 total yards for four consecutive years. Tallying 7,469 passing yards, 3,895 rushing yards, and 92 touchdowns running and passing for his college career, he finish sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting in his senior season.

After college in 2002, Randle El was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers still use his athleticism for the occasional trick play.

He remains the only wide receiver throw a touchdown in Super Bowl history when he did in Super Bowl 40 against the Seattle Seahawks.

This week while talking to the media, the former Hoosier star spoke highly of his alma mater and believes they are bound for success in future seasons.

“The goal was to win a championship and everybody would laugh at us and that kind of thing. It’s going to come to a point and it could be this year or the next couple years, Bloomington is going to have their opportunity. That’s got to be the goal, to win championships. Not just get to a bowl game, not just be satisfied with six wins or anything like that. But to win the championship. If you put that as a goal and strive for that, you’ll get there.” (via FOX 59’s Chris Hagan)
